How I've been feeling during lockdown

It's been incredibly hard for so many people in the past month and still for the next few months in so many ways.

I couldn't carry on running my business as usual at the beginning of the lockdown for obvious reasons. I felt worried and sensitive to carry on selling jewellery when there are so many people at risk, illness and death with COVID-19.

I was also upset to see the big giant companies, the billionaires trying to get bailout and make so many of their employees jobless without paying their wages, not paying their suppliers and manufacturers - you may have seen on the news already. I felt absolute despair, frustration and anger. Another ironic thing is that whilst so many people are struggling, the 1% of the population made more money during a pandemic and yet I've heard/seen small businesses staying home feeling guilty about selling the products of their hard work and worry about their unknown future - and I was one of them.

But amongst all of this doom, I was starting to feel the new wave coming from people from all over the world and felt the love. In particular, within my business, I’ve witnessed sending gifts to family and friends with heartwarming messages and the support from you for small businesses like mine. People pulling together, in newfound solidarity, with amazing compassion, cooperation and hope.

So what I’ve realised is that I want to proudly carry on doing what I love as I care for people and the planet. I so deeply stepped backwards from pushing/selling my jewellery. It felt somehow not quite right to be salesy, but I’m not heartless giant company CEO. I try and always will to make the world a better place and help people as much as I can with my business.

During these troubling times, each and every order means so much to me and my favourite thing about running this business is getting to hear all of the incredibly heartfelt customer stories, it's a huge privilege.

If you need to buy something, I want you to buy from a small business like me rather than the big company because that's the way we can make changes and for that reason, I won't hesitate to boast about my jewellery and hope you can support the backbone of the economy, all the small and local businesses.

I've seen this incredible quote by Sonya Renee Taylor on Instagram. I'm going to finish my blog with her quote for a reminder for all of us, and thank you a million for your support, for every single order, and for your messages.

'We will not go back to normal. Normal never was. Our pre-corona existence was not normal other than we normalized greed, inequity, exhaustion, depletion, extraction, disconnection, confusion, rage, hoarding, hate and lack. We should not long to return, my friends. We are being given the opportunity to stitch a new garment. One that fits all of humanity and nature.'
