Meet Amanda. Australian beauty and editor at Nine In The Mirror. Her vibe is natural, authentic and we are obsessed with her Instagram full of snippets of her life in London and family travels. Here she exclusively shares with us her tips for gift buying, how she spends Christmas and her party icons.
What do you look for when choosing jewellery?
An elegant shape, the structure of a piece is incredibly important and will determine whether jewellery will transcend over time. While I like modern and vintage jewellery equally, I do tend to lean towards art deco-inspired pieces like my engagement ring which features a cushion-cut diamond. I also love how an innovative silhouette or setting can make a metal or stone look completely unique.
I have been obsessed with jewellery ever since I was little. Both of my grandmothers wore beautiful rings, both real and costume, and I loved hearing the stories behind them and trying them on. If I had endless wealth I think I would be like Elizabeth Taylor and hoard diamonds!
Describe your jewellery style in three words ...
Statement, sophisticated, timeless.
Tell us what’s on your Dose of Rose wish list this Christmas …
Classic hoop earrings are one of my favourite everyday styles, but for a more modern take I love the Double Line Hoop Earrings. They have sculptural appeal, yet they’re paired back enough to work with almost any look – and they are an amazing price!
Share your top tip for buying a jewellery gift …
Look at the pieces the recipient already owns and wears regularly so you have an idea of the style of jewellery they love, the type of metals or stones that they prefer ... jewellery is so personal, receiving it as a gift from someone you love makes a piece even more sentimental.
Who’s your party style icon?
Bianca Jagger, she is inherently glamorous. I loved her Studio 54 days and how she would seamlessly switch between menswear tailoring, delicate lace dresses and slinky gowns. She also knew how to dress up a look with statement accessories!
What will you be wearing for the party season?
Usually my go-to party look is a jumpsuit or midi dress teamed with heels and statement earrings, however I have recently become obsessed with sequins, so this season I’ll most likely be wearing a sequinned skirt with an oversized knit and heels. I’ll still wear jewellery but stick to more minimalist pieces.
Finally, what does Christmas mean to you…
Family, food and Summer. I'm from Australia, so Christmas means champagne, seafood and salads for lunch, pavlova for dessert, and the afternoon spent by the pool or at the beach. I have a large extended family, so there is usually more than 30 people around and it is always such a lovely, noisy, fun day. It’s taken me a while to get used to a cold (and much quieter!) Christmas here in the UK, and while I love it, I do always miss home when I'm away from Australia for Christmas.
