A Special Honour: Becoming a Women Who Awards Finalist

My cake business began as a way to honour my mum’s legacy of living life with joy. What I never imagined is that this journey would also lead me here, becoming a finalist for the Special Award at the Women Who Solopreneur Awards 2025.

For many years, I carried a quiet fear of being seen. I loved creating, but stepping into the light felt too daunting. Visibility was something I shied away from. Yet, when I turned my grief into creativity, something shifted. With every buttercream flower I piped, I discovered not just a craft, but also a voice.

Starting a new career in my late 40s wasn’t easy. Many would call it too late, but I believe there is no timeline for following your dreams. My cakes, known for their less-sugar recipes, balanced flavours, and delicate buttercream flowers, are more than desserts, they are messages of hope, resilience, and beauty.

Being recognised by the Women Who Awards means so much more than a title. It reminds me why I do this: to inspire and empower other women. I want every woman, whether she’s starting fresh at 25 or 55 to know that it’s never too late. Your story, your skills, and your passion deserve to be seen.

This nomination isn’t just for me. It’s for every woman who has ever doubted herself, hidden her talents, or wondered if the right time has passed. The truth is, the right time is now.
